New SL Home Page Test Design by Big Spaceship
Testing a new design. This would only be for those arriving and not logged in - probably will mainly be seen by those who have not yet experienced Second Life.

3 Good reasons why this isn't a good idea. I'm sorry, Katt (really, I am _so_ sorry 'bout this design), but it's a very bad executed 'we're trying to go web 2.0'.
Please supply a 'I want to see the old secondlife.com homepage' buttons for us, if this is to go live!

Kate:
I have not won the lottery to view the test and only see this.
I must ask, where do you find your images of Second Life? Just look here in flickr and maybe a few of our talented "residents" would help you and share.
Frankly the images are more then disappointing, Just watch: www.flickr.com/groups/secondlife-bestofthebes t/pool/show/
and you will see Second Life as we see it.

Oh (your choice of deity), that is horrible. It looks like Hulu or redtube. Honestly, it doesn't look like you are promoting virtual environment. It looks like you are trying to display video content.

The current design is pretty nice already. I think more should be focused on updating the TSL page, as it hasn't been changed since 2005, and is hopelessly out of date. Teen Grid in general needs more done for it.

The page looks great but I am surprised that with all of the different types of avatars: human races, animals, mythical creatures, etc... the diversity is not shown on the page...
We have a lot of talented creators in world working hard to provide options so that everyone is not pale skinned with brunette or blonde hair. It would be nice to see the diversity of our world also reflected in the new design.
Other then that it is awesome!

I dunno guys, remember before you comment negativley, we're only seeing one potential incarnation, and we're seeing it screencapped, and static - there could be a whole wealth of information, things going on across those screens, I imagine also that the content isnt finalised either..Although I do recognise the award winning visit mexico build, and the insanely awesome/popular 7days bakery sim greeter robot, perhaps starting with the things that have won awards and drawn crowds isnt the worst place to start?
Remember, and no offence because I'm including myself with the following broad, sweeping statement - we're not their target audience for this. We're there. We get it. We get it enough to make intelligent objections and comments and suggest alternatives - we're not who they're gunning for - they're looking at the newbies, the incoming folks who have yet to discover what a cool place SL is, and all the fun stuff you can do there, the value of the virtual world - Even if we don't like the page, we've gotta like their aims, and if is this is whats going to make it happen, then great! Whats good for the lab is often good for us. [But not always.. I notice there's no openspace sims up there, katt..;) ]
I think it looks interesting, and its refreshing to see LindenLab and Big Spaceship coming up with some new concepts and ideas. Lets see where they go with it!

Mmm, generic.

i'm not sure about that :S its not so great, you'll make a nice Flash website that some people that are new to SL won't be able to acces because they don't have Flash.
LindenLab Come on! FIX SL, DON'T MAKE FANCY HOMEPAGES!
This is the same thing you did with Openspace Regions, First you offer something nice and than you make it horrible (you make a nice homepage where thousands of residents will join, but you wont say anything of Lag, crashes, inventory loss, griefers and so on.)
(Fist you offer some nice normal priced regions for ppl that likes to show they're imagination with sqm and not with so many prims, and than you make the land possible the most expansive land in SL)
but yeah i still love sl and won't leave it for anything my point is that LL please look in your performance not in a website
PS: What happened to the "Your world, your imagination" thingy?!

It sucks, It sucks, it sucks.
Not that it matters, Linden Lab won't listen to the comments or forum feedback.
But still, it sucks, it sucks, it sucks.

This looks worse than a lot of first builds in SL. It is very, very ugly and massively unprofessional. No matter how much smoke Big Spaceship has blown up your ass about how great they are, this design does nothing to back it up.

If you are going to insist on including images of female avatars with ginourmous fake breasts on this new homepage, can you also include images of male avatars with equally ginourmous penisis in their pants???
Like, not that LL want to focus on the "SEX" aspects of Second Life... right??

Hmmmm.. OK - I've seen worse web pages but this isn't too far off - at least amongst professional offerings.
It really does look like a half-decent amateur attempt at a front page for a set of galleries. Not the sort of thing I would expect from a professional company invovled even peripherally in an internet business :(
Pyrii (42 months ago | reply)
A sign that Linden Labs really doesn't know or care what it's product is about any more. The more I look at this, the more like a desperate attention grab it seems.

I know, for some people is harder to go thru change. don't worry guys, is gonna be an easy step, and is going to be for way better. without change we wouldn't have Second Life. :)
