Smithy from Bornich, Taunus, in Open-Air Museum Kommern, Eifel --
This smithy is a small half-timbered building with a slate tetrahedron roof. It is crowned with a cross, bearing a gilded horseshoe as sign of the blacksmith's guild.
Presumably the small building served first as summer house in the 18th century before it was turned into a smithy. In 1966 it was dismantled in Bornich and reerected in its original condition at the museum after a 148 km journey.
To the left of the smithy you see a makeshift stable for shoing the horses.
Die Schmiede ist ein kleines Fachwerkhäuschen mit einem Zeltdach aus Schiefer. Es wird von einem Kreuz mit vergoldetem Hufeisen bekrönt, dem Zeichen des Schmiedehandwerks.
Wahrscheinlich diente das im 18. Jahrhundert erstellte Häuschen zunächst als Garten- oder Weinbergshäuschen, bevor es zu einer Schmiede umgebaut wurde. Im Jahr 1966 wurde es in Bornich abgebaut und nach einer Fahrt von 148 km im Museum originalgetreu wieder aufgebaut.
Zur Linken ein so genannter Notstall, in dem die Pferde beschlagen wurden.
