Thurant Castle above Alken, Moselle -- The Trier Part of the Castle
Thurant castle was built from 1198 to 1206 by Count Palatin Heinrich. From 1246 to 1248 it was besieged by the archbishops of Cologne and Trier. After the conquest the castle was divided in two parts, separated by a wall. Each part had its own keep and its own burgrave who managed the castle for his archbishop.
In the War of the Palatinian Succession (1688-1697) most parts of the castle were destroyed by French troups. It was rebuilt in the 20th century.
If you like you can rent the second and third floor of the building with the half-timbered top for your holidays! - In the first floor there is a small chapel.

Below a shot with a very interesting "lifting construction", I've never seen before in any other castle.
Burg Thurant wurde von 1198-1206 vom Pfalzgrafen Heinrich erbaut. Von 1246 bis 1248 wurde sie von den Erzbischöfen von Köln unjd Trier belagert und schließlich eingenommen. Danach wurde sie in zwei Teile geteilt, die durch eine Mauer getrennt waren. Jeder Teil hatte seinen eigenen Bergfried und wurde von einem Burggrafen für den jeweiligen Erzbischof verwaltet.
Im Pfälzischen Erbfolgekrieg (1688-1697) wurde die Burg weitgehend von franzözischen Truppen zerstört. Im 20. Jahrhundert wurde sie großenteils wiederaufgebaut.
Von dem dreistöckigen Haus links werden der 2. und der 3. Stock heute als Ferienwohnung vermietet. Der erste Stock enthält die Burgkapelle.
Zur Linken der übrig gebliebene 1. Stock des früheren Trierer Palas.
Im Vordergrund die Reste der früheren Mauer zwischen dem Trier und dem Kölner Teil der Burg.
Das unten angehängte Foto zeigt eine sehr interessante Hebeanlage, die ich bisher noch in keiner anderen Burg angetroffen habe.

Deze hoek is ook erg mooi! Ook de tweede foto met die hefinrichting voor ridders is heel interessant. Ik heb er over gelezen maar had er tot nu toe nog geen gezien... :-)
