Comet Hyakutake (C/1996 B2) is photographed with a Minolta SRT-101 circa 1997. The negative was scanned with a Nikon Coolscan V. I never really appreciated the "kink" in the tail till the photograph was enlarged and examined on the monitor.

Star Trails over Artillery Peak

Star Trails over Artillery Peak

Twenty minutes of star trails are seen over Artillery Peak which is North of Alamo Lake State Park in Arizona. A virtually full moon helped to illuminate the foreground in the exposure. The composite was made of 57 twenty second exposures (f/4.0 @ ISO 800) with a Canon 17-40L lens @ 40mm. Images were stacked using startrails.exe.

Mars Rising over the Four Peaks

Mars Rising over the Four Peaks

Mars is seen rising over the Eastern sky above the Four Peaks. The highest peak is Brown’s Peak which has an altitude of 7657 feet. Brown’s Peak is the first peak from the right in the photograph. Brown’s Peak is the highest mountain in Maricopa County located North East of Phoenix. I have wanted to take a star trail above this mountain range since I moved to Arizona. On this particular evening the temperature, clear sky and position of the moon finally made this image a reality. This composite is made of 45 twenty second exposures for a total exposure time of fifteen minutes at ISO 400. A Canon 50 mm f/1.4 lens at f/4.0 was used for the individual exposures.
