55008 'The Green Howards' smokes through Meadowbank, Edinburgh, with the 1630 Aberdeen - Leeds train. Number 8 is about to pass under London Road (the A1) and will emerge near the site of St Margaret's shed. 5th June 1981.

37081 'Loch Long' stands at Edinburgh Waverley with ADB97250 'Ethel 1' on the 0905 Sunday only Edinburgh - Oban train. 4th September 1983.

At 0235 on 22nd September 1983 the 2350 Inverness - Glasgow train, hauled by 47470 and formed of 9 coaches, derailed just south of Pitlochry because of broken fishplates on both sides of the left hand rail. 28 people were injured, none seriously, and after track repairs the line was open again by lunch time on 23rd September. This snatched shot was taken from the 0922 Edinburgh - Inverness train on 24th September 1983. I'm not sure the Highland line would have been back in action so quickly with Network Rail in charge. 20225 trundles over Niddrie West Junction, on the Edinburgh suburban line, with a short train of mineral wagons heading towards Niddrie South Junction and Millerhill Yard. The single line diverging under the train connected with the ECML at Monktonhall Junction, near the current Musselburgh station, and has since been lifted. The line on the far right runs round to Niddrie North Junction and then joins the ECML at Portobello Junction. 17th August 1983.

55008 takes advantage of the falling gradient through Meadowbank to get the 1630 Aberdeen - Leeds up to speed. 55008 had taken over the train at Waverley. The summer, colour version of a previously posted shot. 5th June 1981.
