Ford Thunderbird - 1955
Ford's response to the original Chevrolet Corvette was a vehicle of similar type, but with more of a focus on luxury - termed the Personal Luxury Car.
The model debuted in the 1955 model year and featured a 292 cid (4.8 litre) V8 engine. Measured on sales volume, the model was a success and outsold the Corvette by a considerable margin.
Later Thunderbirds lost their compact size and grew increasingly larger, and were fitted with four seats from 1958 onward.
For a decade of excess, the original 2-seat Thunderbirds are a subtle and stylish icon on mid-fifties automotive Americana.
This miniland-scale lego digital model has been created for Flickr LUGNuts 59th build challenge - 'Nifty fifties, daddy-O!' - celebrating all things automotive in the USA in tha 1950's.
