Photo 3/52 - Week 3, 2012.

This is what happens when you leave your photo to the last minute. Aside from always thinking this will be a night shot, I didn't get to even attempt it til rather late tonight. Luckily I took a day shot this morning but the lighting was bland and dismal. Oh well.

Kind of a statement in this photo, and that being "eff you General Motors, you bunch of assholes." I dearly wanted to participate in the "We are Saab, we are many" Melbourne chapter last weekend, but with bubby teething like mad and generally grumpy it was not a good time to ask for a leave pass. I have had some people snidely remark about "If Saab made cars as safe as Volvos ...", seriously, do yourself a favour and do some research rather than go with stereotypes, you will look a lot less like a fool.

Photo 2/52/2012 - Clouds

Photo 2/52 - Week 2, 2012.

The madness continues, I went out last night, in a freezing Melbourne summer's night to get my week 2 photo. So far it is actually quite nice to know all the themes for the full 52 weeks in advance. I feel that way instead of finding a theme. trying to figure out how to execute it and then trying to get it done within a week made it too difficult last year.

This week's theme is "Clouds". Sure I could have gone outside and pointed the camera into the sky randomly, or hope for an awesome sunset, but why? In the underpass where I took the Week 1 Self Portrait are some clouds ... some are painted, some have messages on them. No one said they had to be real fluffy clouds in the sky did they?

Photo 1/52/2012 - Self Portrait

Photo 1/52/2012 - Self Portrait

Photo 1/52 - Week 1, 2012.

Feel free to call me mad, I never got very far in my Project 52 last year. To be honest I thought a P52 would be easier than a P365, but with the extra time I actually put more pressure on myself. The Danbo Seven Sins was fun but took a lot of effort to realise, after that the photos were not "spectacular" in the sense I was treating it as a smaller version of a P365 and relying on snapshots.

Anyways, I have been talked into doing a Project 52 again this year by Adriana Glackin based on the themes set by Photographers Connection on Facebook. Pure madness I tell you particularly when the very first theme is self portrait, but it does take out one of the banes of last year's effort - thinking of a subject to work with from week to week.

Despite all that I was hesitant to commit myself to yet another photography project. I have been feeling ... less than inspired ... for quite a while. There are just so many things happening in my life that I am constantly time poor. To all the other togs here that I have neglected in 2011, I am sorry! Hope you are all well. Liam is now 15 months old and is a gorgeous happy bub most of the time. There will be photos of him posted again soon!

Enough rambling. Finding this photo on my CF card convinced me that I at least had a photo to kickstart my P52/2012. Over Christmas and New Year I ended up walking with bub up to the shops most days after breakfast to give him some fresh air and get out of the house. We often use the underpass because it is safer, but also because it means it stretches our walk out just a little longer and it is fun. The council had installed strips of mirrors in between the concrete and I thought it made for an interesting self portrait. This shot was initially taken more for my own concept but I am using it as my Week 1 photo.

Bonus points for understanding the title of the photo without Googling.

Photo SOOC except to remove errant street light.

Taken from That's Melbourne website.

"Images projected on the cathedral representing the Christmas story told through Victorian landscapes. The projections show the pink skies during the summer months, the beauty of nature and the pulsating life force of the sun. The flickering lights of fireflies are symbolic of humankind as we make our journey towards friends and family at Christmas time."
