Bochum Bismarckturm 03
The photo shows the "Bismarck-Tower" in the Bochum town park.
As a tower location one decided on the „rising area beyond the new pond“ in the Bochum town park.
The construction management about as an observation tower with fire bowl conceived tower was incumbent upon Heinrich Robert from Bochum; executive master builder was Konrad Bleckmann.
As a material for the tower one selected Ruhr sandstone from castle Hohensyburg.
The laying of the foundation stone on the 28th of March, 1909 took place with big participation of home associations and citizens. After 19-month construction time the building could be initiated on the 16th of October, 1910.
The foundation of the tower fascinates by the massive offshore main entrance which is framed by two lateral wall pillars on which a monumental gable rests. Between the wooden front door and the gable of the main entrance the inscription "Bismarck" is right.
The round tower becomes rejuvenated upwards and is marked above the tower middle by pillar-like vertical wall stripes which stretch in the same distances around the column. About that there joins the view platform on which another construction element surrounded with wall pillars with put on fire bowl (in 1998 taken) camps down.
More than 149 steps (formerly 150) one reaches more than three floors up to the view platform.
