you're either making special effects for a Yokosuka news program (if you've ever seen Japanese news, you'll know exactly what I'm talking about) or you're so going to go to hell. I can't tell which.

      So so tacky... Not funny.

Chuck, you must have misunderstood my intention on this shot. I wanted to show how lucky that flight was and how they had a helping hand in not sinking. They all survived, the plane stayed afloat.

Flying Photog. The plane is being helped by the hand. Am I the only one that sees this?

Pepon404_ oh no, don't worry...I totally got what you intended. deliberately drawing attention away from that is how I introduced crass humor. (and it does, unfortunately, look like Japanese news "special effects" but that's a slam on Japanese news, not you).

It's all fun and games until you look out the window and a giant hand is around your plane... But...it beats sinking in the water.Luckiest people on Earth , what an amazing story.

Being a commercial aviation geek, I think your interpretation of the events surrounding what happened aboard US 1549/Airbus A320-214 - N106US is wonderful. So many people survived such a traumatic and potentially deadly situation and this photo reminds us out there that miracles can happen.

      Great shot.

@ Flying Photog - even if you didn't get the imagery here (I didn't either - but I'm pretty dumb like that)... why is it tacky to make fun of this interesting incident? No one came to grief, right... all's well that ends well, as they say.

The Event proves that systems in America do work regardless of current situations.
Praise not only goes to the Captain and His crew, and all the first responders ...but to the passengers working together. ...working together is key.

So much is made about how much of a 'miracle' this was... Calling it a miracle really detracts from all the work and effort and training all the people involved had to make the outcome so favorable. It bugs me how quickly people latch on to media-invented catch phrases to describe events. Perhaps the only real miracle here was that the incident didn't happen 5 minutes later.

That said, I like your photograph.

    24. Steven Pam (41 months ago | reply)

@estatik - agreed. Unfortunately most people do rely on the mainstream media to inform their world view, instead of observing and thinking for themselves.

As an example related to this incident, let's see... I'll go open Google News here and see what the first headline about this story is as of this moment. Here we go: "New Pictures Show NY Plane Crash" (from the BBC, no less!).

The sidebar also has a link to a video purportedly showing "the moment plane dived into Hudson".

Crash? Dive? I didn't see it diving or crashing, I saw a textbook water landing or ditching.

Do you think anyone would bother to ask a professional pilot, or survey a group of pilots, if the plane "dived" or whether any landing not on a runway is a "crash"? Of course not. The news told me the plane dived into the river and crashed, so that's what happened.

      [end rant]

(Post script - when I watched the video, it was prefaced by an ad for British Airways... too funny!)

Hi, I'm an admin for a group called Th@t's Life, and we'd love to have this added to the group!

I like what you did there...and so does the international press, this is from a major German political magazine :)
