A Giant Swallowtail (Papilio cresphontes) chrysalis waiting out the winter below my kitchen window. I was really hoping that it would have emerged last fall but it does 'seem' to have survived the winter. I would really like to have been able to photograph the complete life cycle of this individual and 'if' I am able to record its emergence, I will have accomplished that one. Other than the egg stage that is since I have no idea what they look like or where they may have been laid.

2012-069 - The lantern's broken. It's obvious that the winter was a little hard on this Chinese lantern. Either that, or hungry squirrels decided that it would make a nice addition to dinner. Even though this 'looks' like a bad cut and paste, it isn't.... hmmm
