Mac's Ledge

Mac's Ledge

Awoke very early and couldn't get back to sleep; a sunrise beckoned. Arriving out at the coast it didn't look too good with a thick band of cloud hugging the horizon.

I've been watching this spot for a while and was surprised at how far around to the point the sun rose. The late summer angle bringing some nice light across the ledge as the clouds lifted for a few minutes, right on cue.

Ettalong Point

Ettalong Point

The big seas have washed away most of the sand from the point at Ettalong, leaving the rocks exposed.

Although it looked quite grey this afternoon my friend Tony and I decided to head out after dinner to see if we could catch a sunset down at the beach. The wind was blowing strongly, the waves were up, and for just a few minutes the sky lit up for us as the sun set for the day.

Lion Island Sunrise

Lion Island Sunrise

Another image from my visit to Flathead Beach a few weeks back, taken just as the sun was rising behind Lion Island.

Apologies to all my Flickr friends for being a bit absent lately, I've really needed to have a short break and recharge. Heading off up the coast on a fishing charter this weekend, I'll catch up with everyone next week.

Have a great weekend!

Copa to Macs

Copa to Macs

With a promising afternoon sky, and good mate Tony keen to get out too, we decided to head over to Copacabana to see what we could find.

I'd not really thought of this location for a sunset before but a quick check of the co-ordinates confirmed some potential. I've been using a really useful app on my smartphone called "The Photographers Ephemeris".

This terrific app plots the direction of the sun and moon, rise and set, as well as the times for each, according to any location you choose. It uses a google earth location system and you can also set it to any date in the future to see where the sun or moon will rise or set. Well worth a look if you don't have it already.

The sunset didn't quite fulfil it's original promise but it was great to get out and relax after a busy week, a new location found to explore a bit more in the future.

Have a great weekend!
