SS Dicky_122

Another SS Dicky photo. Had to do some significant cropping of the sky due to sensor muck which became very noticeable when adjusting contrast on this image. Time for a sensor clean !

Glasshouse Mtns (20)

Glasshouse Mtns (20)

Mount Coonowrin, Glasshouse Mountains National Park.

I did not to have wait long for the sunlight to bathe the tree in nice afternoon light.

The volcanic peaks of the Glass House Mountains rise dramatically from the surrounding Sunshine Coast landscape. The Glass House Mountains were named by Lieutenant Captain James Cook in 1770.
The Glass House Mountains are the eroded remnants of volcanoes that were active approximately 25–27 million years ago.

Sunshine Coast 2012 005

Sunshine Coast 2012 005

Not a scene you see in the postcards !

A week of storms and bad weather preceded my trip. The ocean and beaches were a mess. That foam was all along the coast. No way I was going to have a swim. But these young surfers were desperate for a surf. I did ask at a shop 'where are the pristine beaches and nice surf that is on the posctacrds?' tic.

glass2 002

glass2 002

Learning wine glass photography.

Lesson 1 - do not use red wine - I keep sampling the product, and after lots of experimenting, well, who knows what is happening :-)

So, use water and food colour instead - will not 'sample' that.

Two flashes off-camera, one either side of the glass facing background (not aimed at wine glass), with white paper as reflector both sides out of frame, shoot the flashes into the white paper. Tidy up in Capture NX2, adjust contrast.

Not bad for early efforts (lot of discarded shots until figured out the technique).
Hopefully will get better results with more red wine, oops, I mean practice.
