Cub Scout Pack 653's Den #4 went to visit Round Rock Fire House #7 today. While we were there we saw a tattered and dingy US flag hanging over a head-board in one of the bedrooms. When we went out to the garage we saw where that flag came from. An American and a Texan flag fly behind their engines.

While a the US flag is supposed to be kept clean and brilliant, seeing a dingy flag like this (especially behind a fire engine) will always remind me of 9/11. This flag represents real people doing real work in their communities and, sometimes, getting a little battered and bruised while doing it.

For whatever reason, this balloon never got off the ground and they stuck around until the sun came out. I love the cool blue sky in the early morning!

We got up early on Saturday to watch all these balloons launch. We thought it'd be a nice quiet family activity. After all, who gets up at 5:30AM on a Saturday to watch some silly ol' balloons? Apparently, all of Austin!

Unfortunately, we stood on the west side of the balloons and the light was fairly flat. Next year I'll have to move around some more.
