Harville House

This is another shot from my recent trip with my son. We stopped and talked to the owners for a while. The house was finished around 1900. They have stabilized the house and would like to restore it. On the side of the house where the porch has collapsed, there were columns similiar to the front porch.

Some history I've been able to find: The house was built around 1890 by Keebler H. and Hester Byrd Harville. Originally a 1 story house, the upper levels were added to accomodate their growing family. They had 10 children:Kate, Ruth, Sam, Virgil, Terrell, Slydel, Myrtis, Naomi, Nancy and Lucille. The last two people to live in the house were Nancy and Naomi Harville. Naomi died is 1967 and Nancy in 1976. An interesting fact is that Keebler Harville was one of the signers of the Articles of Secession for Georgia.

When I was an undergrad at Georgia Southern, we would often take a drive out at night to see this "haunted house."

Wow. That thing is massive. I can't even imagine restoring something like that (so large) but they get a lot of credit in my book for even thinking about it.
