A stitch in time

A stitch in time

As the sun sets on the Hood Canal, sunlight reflects off the ripples caused by the tide going out.

The window to my soul

The window to my soul

The Olympic Mountains. My second home during much of the year. Seen here at sunset are both southeast and northwest peaks of Buckhorn Mountain, Iron Mountain and Mount Worthington. The peaks range in elevation from 6-7000' and considering this shot was taken at sea level, that's quite a hike.

Laid to rest

Laid to rest

The decaying remains of an old pier lie at the edge of the shoreline of Gamble Bay. As the sun rises to melt away the layer of frost that has accumulated on the wood overnight, it will also take with it more of what remains of its life above the earth.

Over 7000 acres of this tranquil area around Port Gamble, WA is up for sale to commercial developers, putting this area and its ecosystem at risk. The Great Peninsula Conservancy, a non-profit conservation group, is working to ensure that the land goes back to the community so that it can stay as it is, to help preserve it for future generations. Please help put out the word about the efforts to prevent more needless housing and developing from occurring in this historic part of Washington state.

The struggle for existence

The struggle for existence

Fiercely they pierce out from the earth that contains them. Once a pier along the shores of Gamble Bay, all that remains are the tattered ends, the last reminder of their existence. With each passing tide, they fade from view; one day to be no more.

A sign in the parking lot of the Hansville General Store leaves no doubt for who is supposed to be parking there. The small store, located at the far northern tip of the Kitsap Peninsula in the quaint town of Hansville, is the one-stop solution for the towns residents.
