I've been waiting until we had more rain to try this light painting effect again as I didn't want to start a grass fire! We finally had several days of rain so I went out to a local trail to give it another shot. Because it was pitch black, it was nearly impossible to figure out where to focus the camera and frame the shot, so I was disappointed I didn't get the whole ball in the shot, but I wasn't eager to try it again and here's why....

I had set my flashlight on the ground as a reference point for where I would be standing when I was setting up my tri-pod, then out of the corner of my eye, I saw some movement moving towards the flashlight to check it out. At first I thought it was a cat, but then I saw some white and it didn't seem to move like a cat and had a really fluffy tail...I don't know for sure, but I think it was a skunk! I know they hang out in the area as I often smell that unmistakable smell when walking the dogs here during the day and I think they are nocturnal animals. I proceeded to get a grip on my spinning apparatus and get my shot in as the little stinker left me and the flashlight alone...

So needless to say, even though this shot didn't come out exactly how I wanted and I wanted to try a second shot, I was eager to get out of there before an even bigger tragedy occured! :-) The good news is I tried something new, I used the "bulb" mode on the camera with my remote shutter release...it's all good, and I didn't get skunked! :-)
