103/365 An extension of me

    (Photo a Week - Week 15 - "Work")

I've been struggling with ideas for this week's MCP theme, mostly because I don't like my picture taken. Those who know me know my evenings are often filled doing therapy visits with my dogs at local schools, libraries, hospitals, assisted-living centers, and mental health facilities.

I volunteer because I care about people and it's my way of giving back; my dogs are like an extension of me in giving back, in their own special way. They like to "work", especially Hope who is pictured here. In addition to our normal therapy work, Hope and I are also a certified Crisis Response team with HOPE AACR (www.hopeaacr.org). Our shining moment came last year when we provided comfort to students, teachers, and parents where a school shooting occurred and two students were shot.

Hope has the innate ability to reach out to those who need her, it's not something I ever taught her. She just knows. She has taught me the meaning of giving back and what a difference we can make in people's lives. I'm so proud of her (and my other dog Nick who is also a therapy dog) and the work they do...

Nice! I know how hard it is to take a picture of a black dog and still get his features.
