Lower Emeishan

Lower Emeishan

Otherwise known as Mount Emei (Chinese: 峨嵋山), this UNESCO World Heritage Mountain is also one of the possible four sacred buddhist mountains of China, located in Sichuan province. Here, we were transported from the base of the mountain to the final vehicular port to reach the peak of the mountain. Our bus arrived by lunch time and we dined at a rather ordinary restaurant before making our ascent on a full stomach. Cable cars can be accessed before a one hour hike to reach the peak - Jinding (Golden Peak).

Humble Administrator's Garden

Humble Administrator's Garden

Unlike most tourists who visit Suzhou, we actually visited this massive garden complex last under the advice of our driver. Leaving the best until last, this did not disappoint! It's China's showpiece of imperial gardening providing some of the most serene sceneries you will see in any area around China. A shame that we visited during winter, spring or autumn surely would've had an amazing feel to it too.

Suzhou Ancient Town

Suzhou Ancient Town

The dreary weather the day we visited Suzhou dampened our spirits a little (well, more so mine due to photography opportunities) but provided almost a blessing in disguise. The city was quaint and tourists at a minimal, with few willing to brave the winter cold! We had the entire elongated roofed canal boats to ourselves. There was a hatch in which you would be able to pop your head through to snap photos of the gorgeous water town and many of the ancient housing that still exists.

Suzhou Housing

Suzhou Housing

Atop the Beisi Pagoda, our eyes extended as far as the smoggy horizon would allow us - hundreds of buildings all with the same dark roofs and white walls. A nostalgic feel of China as it strived to make the transition towards an industrialised era.
