I am here

I am here

FX Photo Studio (MacPhun) for iPhone/iPod touch is free in the AppStore right now, so I figured I'd give it a whirl. Opening the app's welcome screen, I was surprised to find my own live image in the lens. My initial amusement gave way to mixed feelings about the front camera being used without advance notice or permission requested.

Looking through the settings, there is a choice for the front or rear camera view but no option to turn it off completely.

Otherwise, the post-processing options in this app are very impressive. Get it here:

Almost missed

Almost missed

I have been without a computer for so long, and my Canon cameras sit collecting dust. I have no place to offload the photos once taken. So I barely noticed the beautiful sky last night. The tinge of paint on the horizon finally foisted itself upon my consciousness, and I remembered I have an iPhone 5! I just caught the tail end of the sunset.

Taken with Apple's own iPhone camera app, imported into Camera+ for post processing (sunset "scene" setting) and uploaded to Flickr from the Camera+ app.

Mammoth

Mammoth

I took the previously post-processed photo and ran it through Flickr's Mammoth filter in the Flickr iPhone app. So really, there are two filters in this image. Interesting grungy effect. However, I would like to go on record that I am not fond of filter names which bear no relation to optical qualities. Names like Panda and Mammoth may be cute, but they tell me nothing about how they will change my image.

Pinhole effect using Camera+ on my iPhone. Great app!

I find it truly amazing that the camera in this phone produces images of larger resolution than my Canon cameras (2006) are able to spit out.

Yahoo! Weather app for iPhone, iPod, and iPod touch! (screenshot)

Yahoo! Weather app for iPhone, iPod, and iPod touch! (screenshot)

Yahoo has combined stunning weather-relevant Flickr member photos with a truckload of weather geekery and maps. Plus, it has made it Funnnnn to use, including animated windmills and sunrise-sunsets! I think I'm in love!

Download it here:

Yahoo! Weather in the Apple AppStore

The Android version looks a bit different from the screenshots I've seen on Google Play , more widgety, like Android itself.

The photos come from the Project Weather Flickr Group and link back to the Flickr members' photo pages! So if you've got some great geolocated photos you'd like to contribute, head on over there and submit your work!

UPDATE 5/2/2013: I just noticed that Yahoo! has posted TV/video ad for this app! View it…
