This is very interesting, l am trying to work out how you do it with clay. Your paintings are really lovely and very unique!

Thank you :) I wrote a tutorial covering the basics of clay 'painting' and it can be read on polymer clay central. I am self taught and wanted to share what I have learned. I learn new things with each one but the tutorial covers enough information for someone to get started and then go off in their own direction :)

I'm new to Polymer Clay, and am so inspired by your paintings. I can only hope that one day I will be able to create something half as wonderful as yours. "One can move mountains, when one sets their mind to it".

Thank you, I'm so glad you like them :) You know, I started out doing animal sculptures and just kept at it for a long time. (Since 1991) Believe it or not, I never really learned any techniques or caning till only about two years ago. I dabbled in those for awhile, but kept dreaming about 'painting' in clay... I finally stepped out to try it and found my 'niche' (the 'paintings') and then just concentrated on that. Everyone has a 'niche'... you do too :) Just dabble and experiment and when that one thing grabs you and you keep coming back to it... you can devote most of your time to that area. (some people have several in PC :) practice is the key... and when you find that one area... practice, practice and develop your own special something :)

This is just so beautiful Mary. Isn't it wonderful that you are blessed with this talent to take your mind away from other problems. I'm looking forward to your next paintings.

Thanks Gilly! :) It is indeed a great stress reducer. I'm working on my next 'painting' now... takes time and I hope it turns out good :) I won't say what it is though... waiting to surprise you all (including me, if it turns out lol!! :)

This is wonderful! I love it when someone pushes the envelope like this---polymer clay has so many possibilities, and it's great to see them so fully realized.

Thank you Ketz :) Took me awhile to find my 'niche'. I'm always amazed by others' Polymer Clay works and the vibrant colors and designs they end up with. It really is a great medium. :)

Beautiful! I will look at your tutorial. Do you do regular painting also?

Would you believe I never painted in my life till I did these!?? What's driving me crazy is my newest piece I'm working on has been sitting for months and months, only needing a small bit of work to be completed... and I'm just having a terrible time getting back to it! aaarrrggghhh!! lol! But I WILL finish it... because I can't start another one till it's done!! lol!

You know what? I never finish one piece before I start on another! I have many projects in varying states of completion, and when I don't have further inspiration on the one I am working on, I look around my studio and find the one that I know just what to add. It works for me; I also just start many beginnings to have arund, waiting for their moment to come into being....I have to kind of sneak up on my muse! She gets scared away by too much serious work and I found that I got too disgusted with myself when the piece I was working on continuously turned out to be a dud...Now I never have duds, I just keep recycling bits and pieces of everything until it says: YES!!!

Sorry it took me so long to comment on your post... I just found it today :) Thank you so much for your encouragement... I understand what you mean now because I've got several different art mediums going on at once and I keep going from one to the other. I go from wire to clay to ATCs to zine illustrations (my newest thing:) I do the zine illustrations when I have a creative block and just need to relax... they are so much fun! :))))
