With Their Eyes Montage

With Their Eyes Montage

As we frequently say - Go BIG.

The NCHS crew is doing a spring show called "with their eyes". The play is an acted set of interviews, done by high school students of others about 9/11. What's this groups special value in doing this? All the students who did the interviews attended Stuyvesant HS - located about four blocks from Ground Zero. So for a photo project, we elected to photograph all the participants with a photo of them from 10 years ago which you see a sample of here.

From left to right meet Alex, Brian, Anna, Dylan, Lauren, Meg, and Tori. Shot with a single AB-B800 at 1/8 power with a socked 22" beauty dish reflector just above camera and straight on. One Nikon SB-800 at 1/32 as a back/rim light.

I am very aware of the Tim Mantoani project of photographers with their famous photos (check out the Wired Mag article). I am both inspired by it and yet looking to be a tiny bit different - or at least different enough.

March 2012 Desktop Calendar

March 2012 Desktop Calendar

You knew we'd go back to Utah at some point, right? Of course.

The view from the east side of the North Window is one of the iconic sunrise shots in Arches National Park, near Moab, UT. This view - about 40 feet up the side of a rock face requires a very early arrival and a little climbing. It's gets crowded up there in a space not much larger than a small bedroom. I think we squeezed about six of us up there that morning. But the view - through the amazingly large window (roughly 50' tall by 90' wide) - looks right at nearby Turret Arch. And for a few minutes ONLY every morning - the rocks light up before the western sky gives up it's color completely. And that - THAT - makes for a March calendar.

So head over to the Central Illinois Photoblog to get yours for March!

Baseline

Baseline

Okay - one more image from Sunday - just because I liked the crop... Shronda Butts - number zero - had some decent success going via the baseline all day...

Pull Up

Pull Up

I think this ended up being my favorite shot from the afternoon based solely on it's crispness. I'm a freak for sharp I guess.

This is Bradley's Kelsey Budd - freezing most of the CU defense - as she pulls up for this short jumper near the top of the key.

Drive

Drive

In my quest to shoot a different women's sporting event every weekend... but I digress.

Morton's own Brooke Bisping, already a junior at BU, drives the baseline against the hated Creighton Bluejays. Many moons ago, Creighton - before their women's teams were in the Missouri Valley Conference - haunted the High Country Athletic Conference. And who was the Information Director for the HCAC in like 1986-87-88? Me. That's who.

But a shout out to Brooke whom I've actually met once or twice although I'm sure she doesn't remember it - but her dad Todd is one of heck of a nice guy who I go way back with...
