a cropped version of the original
the deep lines in her face and powerful eyes are one of the reasons I
loved shooting in Cuba so much. They seem to have as rich a history as
the country itself.

This is a fabulous picture and a stunning portrait. I must admit that due to the busy background, I must vote for the defender in this case. Well done Mr. Mark.

A pesar de la calidad de la fotografía (debido quizas al recorte), me inclino mas por esta. Me parece mas natural que "Hair", que parece un montaje sobre-elaborado.
Spite of the photo quality (due to the crop, I guess), I prefer this one over "Hair", which seems a over elaborated and a bit unnatural image...

The other one is just striking...too striking to defeat...this image seems a bit dark

This is a very cool photo. I wish the cigar had a background the allowed it to be fully visible. The symmetry and the textures on the defender win it. Perhaps if you had less background distraction it would have swayed me.

I do love this shot. It is comical, fascinating and memorable. The character is almost caricature with that great purple scarf and that comically huge cigar. However, I cant get past the quality of the defender. It is simply a fabulous and original portrait.

Mark, have a look here... found this and thought about your shot.
it's small, so i can't tell if the same woman or just a more common thing to find in Cuba (older women and cigars i mean).
in any event, thought you may find of interest.
