A characteristic modern glass building which stand in contrast to the many older styles of architecture in this lovely city to which I fear I shall never return. Forbes announced today that once again Señor Slim, who owns part of the NYTimes, has been declared the richest man in the world with well over 65 billion dollars. An honor and glory to the 1% of the world.I was happy to see he still has the appropriate number of chins.

The title of this work refers, of course, to the famous song "South of the Border, Down Mexico Way," which offers a more romantic view of Mexico. Here is the famous rendition by Gene Autrey.

Among other things--like the daily news--this vision has been influenced by a view conceived about one hundred years ago by the German thinker Oswald Spengler, who eventually published his thesis in the 1920's under the title "Der Untergang des Abendlandes" ("The Decline of the West") This work, still relevant today, has been admired by such people as Henry kissinger, Northrope Frye, Joseph Campbell and Ludwig Wittgenstein.
