first off let me just say that i did not shoot any of this footage. this is some old cinefilm shot mostly by my grandad many years before i was born. i just cut some bits together and put music over the top, right? :)

when i look at an old photo or old movie footage like that, it makes me cry. because the people in the photo or on the screen look so happy and young and my mother is building sandcastles and my aunt is swimming and my grandparents are playing with them in the sunshine and talking and laughing and smiling a lot. but i know the end of the story and they don't. i know who lives and who dies, who becomes ill and who remains healthy, who marries and who doesn't.
and i wonder if one day someone'll be watching the crackly old video of my 8th birthday party at alphabet zoo and be thinking the same things that i am thinking.
