Lost in the forest, I broke off a dark twig
and lifted its whisper to my thirsty lips:
maybe it was the voice of the rain crying,
a cracked bell, or a torn heart.

Something from far off it seemed
deep and secret to me, hidden by the earth,
a shout muffled by huge autumns,
by the moist half-open darkness of the leaves.

Wakening from the dreaming forest there, the hazel-sprig
sang under my tongue, its drifting fragrance
climbed up through my conscious mind

as if suddenly the roots I had left behind
cried out to me, the land I had lost with my childhood---
and I stopped, wounded by the wandering scent.

I hope all of you have a wonderful New Year, there are still so many mushrooms here in the city is ridiculous...we just haven't had the cold weather this winter. I think I might head to the woods on the outskirts of Rainier today.

We have had some plummeting temps over the past week, found this lovely scene while on one of my crawls/walks through the woods. I was so cold (forgot my gloves) I could barely focus but after several tries I think I did okay. Busy, busy and more busy am I...love you my peeps! Hope you all have a safe and wonderful holiday, thank you so much to the people who participated in the ornament exchange...I have been getting the most beautiful mushrooms in the mail!
