Þingvallavatn

    Newer Older

Þingvallavatn (pronounced Thingvallavatn) is the largest natural lake in Iceland and is a part of the Þingvellir National Park, where the tectonic plates of Europe and The Americas meet. It is also the site where the Alþing, the oldest parliament in the world, was founded in 930. The photo shows the island of Sandey in the lake.
