Millfield Coal Mine Disaster

November 5, 1930

Ohio's worst mine disaster occurred in this Sunday Creek Coal Company mine when an explosion killed 82 persons. Among the dead were the company's top executives who were in the mine inspecting new safety equipment. Nine hours after the explosion, rescuers discovered 19 miners alive underground, three miles from the main shaft.

The photograph is the chimney from the mine's powerplant. Very little is left of the mine and the other buildings. The list of names on the right are the miners reported killed as a result of the disaster.

We were fortunate to be granted permission to enter the site from the owner. The mine sits on private property and there are still open holes in the ground.

As near as I can tell, this is a 1957, but I am open to correction. Thanks Mike this is a 58.

This photo has been manipulated a fair amount. The original had this next to an old trailer and had some farm implements behind it.

I hated to pass on the shot, so this is what I came up with. I hope Paul doesn't mind.

This is more of an exercise than anything else... the is 8 5x HDR images aligned and merged while pulling focus. I like the result I got with the Pysanky and thought I would try something a bit more ambitious.

Friend Shirley invited a group of us down to shoot her family's farm early this morning. We shot an old truck for a while while waiting for the rising sun to hit this old tractor. This is 5x HDR with some Focal Point shenanigans.
