An Evening in China

An Evening in China

Rural China is a huge contrast from the big urban cities like Beijing and Shanghai. This picture was taken last October near a town called Xingping on the shores of the Li River. It was a beautiful evening - a perfect end to a very satisfying hike from another little town called Yangdi to Xingping, from where I took a bus back to Yangshuo, where I was staying.

Yangshuo is a unique tourist spot - you will find more people speaking English (or any popular European language) within 15 minutes than you might find in a week in, say, Beijing. So its a very popular tourist spot, but 15 minutes of bike ride and you are in the heart of rural China, away from most of the crowd.

Christmas at Bryce

Christmas at Bryce

Panorama of Bryce on the Christmas morning of 2006. The place was almost completely deserted, thanks to Christmas. And cold! I remember this couple who left ice cream on their car hood to keep it frozen :)

A trip down the icy trail amongst these features was memorable too.

Solitude / Foggy Afternoon

Solitude / Foggy Afternoon

Oregon Coast, south of Gold Beach, OR. Took this on the last Fourth of July. When most of California was burning in wildfires, Oregon was beautiful and peaceful. Gold Beach is also interesting because the water there for some reason isn't the usual freezing Pacific self.
