Leap Day Storm..................

Leap Day Storm..................

I guess February wanted to go out with a bang as we are having our first winter snowstorm today. All the schools in the area are closed as well as many businesses. I attempted going to work this morning, but encountered a total whiteout in the first few blocks and knew it would be much worse along the lake front. Oh well, I made a pot of soup and I guess we'll just hunker down and ride the storm out................Couldn't resist adding some R.E.O. Speedwagon......... ;^)

Ashland Oredock #2

Ashland Oredock #2

Please do not feel you have to comment on this second image. I understand it is more of a local interest photo. I will probably post more as the demolition progresses. As always, thanks for all your wonderful support and friendship!

The Ashland Oredock

The Ashland Oredock

The demolition process of the Ashland ore dock has begun. The ore dock is listed on the city's historic register. It was built in 1916 to load iron ore mined in the area onto Great Lakes freighters, and is one of the largest in the world. The concrete structure is 80 feet (24 m) high and 75 feet (23 m) wide and extends 1,800 feet (550 m) into the harbor. it was last used to ship ore in 1965. In 2007 the Wisconsin Trust for Historic Preservation named it one of the "10 most endangered historic buildings in Wisconsin", a list intended to stir preservation efforts. According to a structural inspection completed in 2006 and 2007 the ore dock has become structurally unsafe and an imminent safety hazard. In 2009, approval was granted for the demolition of the structure. All material on the ore dock will be removed down to the concrete base. The anticipated date of completion of the project is scheduled for completion at the end of 2014.

A LIttle Bird Told Me...........

I hope you're all staying well. I have been down with a Sinus Infection and Strep Throat for almost 2 weeks. I actually missed 2 days of work last week and 2 days this week . Even on antibiotics, I'm still nowhere near 100%. Very frustrating!! ;~ (

Take care and have a great weekend!
