Thanks Sugar, the whole volcanic landscape that I flew over around Mexico City was amazing.

What's really amazing is the geometric forms I see in the left crater...what are they doing in there?

It looks to me like they are farming the bottom - hopefully it's extinct.

Those look more like quarries to me. As well as volcanos, Pueblas is famous for having some of the richest quarries in the world.

Could be. I was guessing a volcanic origin based on the many volcanoes I saw in the same area.

that can-t be a vulcanic crater, it should have stone walls sticking out all around the holes. it looks more like an excavation, a quarry of some kind

Could be calderas, but definitely volcanic I think. The entire area was filled with obvious lava flows and other geologic features.

Those actually look more like karst sinkholes; what is the geology of the area?

    11. addicted1983 16 months ago | reply

actually it are meteor impact craters, in cancun there are thousends of them small and big...

    12. Uncle Kick-Kick 16 months ago | reply

I could see either one of these. The volcanic nature of the surrounding region leads me to think something volcanic however.

i think these are karst sink holes, the underlying rock was washed away and the top layers of rock then would fall down.

Could be. If you click on the map at the top and look at the landscape around it, you can see the volcanics everywhere. Not sure if volcanic and limestone features are usually in this close proximity.
