Russians, who controlled much or all of Central Asia from the 19th to late 20th century, are still a significant part of the population of the various Central Asian countries ("the Stans"). They are most prevalent in Kazakhstan, where they comprise 30% of the population.
This photo is taken outside the Zenkov Cathedral on Ascension Day, the day marking the ascension of Christ into heaven.
PS: took this photo a few hours after arriving from a 27 hour trip. Just looking at this photo gives me jet lag!
