Mrs. Molewa Mwenga, an elderly woman living in Musavani, Kenya, is shown with her grandson Joseph.

In summer 2011, this region was devastated by drought. Rivers dried up, animals died, water sources became scarce, and people fought over vanishing grazing land and water.

Caritas began water conservation projects here, helping villagers dig wells, create reservoirs, terrace fields, and build dams. Caritas also distributed food and hardy seeds to farming families who were forced to eat their stored seed.
