Imitation of Eythe's photostream

Palace guard Mischa Auer tries to dissuade William Eythe from having an audience with Catherine the Great in what is probably Bill's finest on-screen hour. Eythe was never classier, sexier or more appealing than in this first-rate Lubitsch production. The fact that he never had another opportunity that was similar can only be called typical of Hollywood's treatment of mavericks.

Today, May 5th is Mr. Powers' b'day. I think we should all watch "The Razor's Edge" or "Nightmare Alley" in his honor, and raise a glass of Dewar's Black Label (water on the side), which was his drink, and thank him for many an enjoyable hour in the dark!
