The road

The road

The road goes ever on and on,
Down from the door whence it began,
And wither then I cannot say,
And wither then, I cannot say

She's been all consuming, 24/7. We eat, sleep, live and breath the road for this time. It's a strange place, a tight community 300 miles north of nowhere.

Over 800 images taken so far, editing = zero. LOL It's going to be a while yet before I get time to begin the task, and it's going to take a while to complete it. Even then the road goes on long after the season ends.

Time for me to go to work again. This one is straight out of the camera, I thought you might enjoy a teaser.

Ice road trucking

Ice road trucking

So I've finally managed to pause for long enough to post something. This is my current abode for eight weeks with my first load of the season chained onto the trailer.

She's an old International, noisy and small inside but most importantly reliable and warm. So far in the last couple of weeks we've covered over 8000km at an average speed of 20kph over the longest ice road in the world, made famous in the first two seasons of the smash hit tv series Ice Road Truckers.

First time I've tried one of these (and got it right) My thanks to Flickrite YTF for the inspiration and the instruction.

To view, gently cross your eyes until a third image appears between the two here, focus on the middle image, which should appear 3D Best viewed Large

Lights over the lake

Lights over the lake

Due to the biggest amount of solar activity in seven years, the aurora has been pretty incredible this week, more than making up for the last two months of quiet.

If you've not seen the northern lights in person (and even if you have) you should check this amazing video shot by fellow Flickrite, Ole Christian Salomonsen using over 50,000 images and colour calibrated screens, this is the closest I've found on the 'net to the real thing. Breathtaking!

Railway

Railway

Taken the same morning as the Ben Nevis shot, I pushed the editing about as far as I could for that surreal look. With the assistance of the reflections and those crazy converging lines, it's nice to confuse the eye.

First day in for the new company for me today, an 11 hour shift to break me in gently, just going over the trucks in anticipation of the Winter Road so nothing new photographically, just raiding the archives once again. I hope you enjoy this one.

Hit "L" to play ;-)
