Black Phoebie GRPH 5-5-11 7

A Black Phoebe Sayornis nigricans perches on a rusty barbacue firebox in a picnic area of the Garin Regional Park, Hayward, CA. Taken by a Nikon D40x at ISO 400 with a Sigma 70-300mm non-APO macro lens (at 300) Cropped heavily to squareish.

The @#$in' bird turned its head away just as I tripped the shutter...

This is probably a just-fledged first-year juvenile...

American Robin GRPH 5-5-11 4

American Robin GRPH 5-5-11 4

An American Robin perches on a tree limb in Garin Regional Park, Hayward, CA. Taken by a Nikon D40x with a Sigma 70-300 DG non-APO macro lens. (at 300) Cropped severely to square.

I'm looking almost straight up to catch this one - one doesn't want to look exactly straight up for this species: the genus name (which means "Thrush" in Latin...) is highly appropriate for it's American slang meaning!
