Wild Columbine, also known as Red Columbine generally grows on steep rocky slopes. It blooms from March to July. It is prized by bees and humming birds for its nectar.

A film image taken in July of 2000 at the North Carolina Arboretum. If you haven't been there it's a beautiful place.

A shot of Birch Creek on the access trail to the Conasauga River Trail from the southeastern trailhead at Betty Gap. Birch Creek is a small tributary of the river and reaches the river approximately 1/3 mile from this location.

The Conasauga River Trail runs over 13 miles through the Cohutta Mountains. It crosses the river numerous times along its length (over 30) and it can be quite challenging to ford the river depending on water levels.

This area is home to the largest Eastern Hemlock in Georgia, as well as the largest Blackgum Tree, both over 10 feet in circumference.

The sign at the trailhead welcomes you to bear country.

I almost titled this image "Coffee Time on Birch Creek" because that is what I was doing as I waited for the light to come this particular morning. I had my tripod set up in the middle of the stream while I sat on a big rock with a cup of coffee in hand :)

Looking back, I wish I had spent more time (and film) at this spot, it was almost like a rainforest. Constantly dripping water and lush vegetation. Taken on Fuji Velvia 50.

A night time skyline image of Louisville, KY from the other side of the Ohio River. Image was taken in The Falls of the Ohio State Park.

The Louisville skyline viewed across the Ohio River is one of the prettiest I have seen in reality. The river provides an excellent platform for reflections, being plenty wide enough to capture a full set of reflection.

Wai'anapanapa State Park is located on the Hawaiian Island of Maui, in the town of Hana. It covers over 120 acres and has many natural features to investigate, all surrounded by lush green vegetation. The sand is formed from volcanic rock and is black in color. Among the many features to be found here are sea stacks, blowholes, a natural arch, and caves.

Another shot taken with the old Rebel on Fuji Velvia. I remember visiting this place and thinking, so THIS is what Hawaii is like. At the time it seemed every directin I looked was another post card I had seen at another time. The lush colors, especially contrasted against the black volcanic rock is and was astounding. If you look closely at this shot, you can just see two people sun bathing on the black sand on the left edge of the frame.

This image represents one of the first rolls of pro slide film I’d ever used. I purchased some to take on a trip to Hawaii in 1996, and managed to shoot all 20 rolls of it while there. I don’t want to discuss what my keeper rate was in those days, but suffice to say you will be seeing a very small percentage of the lot.  The camera is the Canon Rebel. This would be the original Rebel, the one Andre Agassi spent a lot of time advertising for Canon. I still have the camera, although I haven’t shot it in many years. It is still pristine and works just fine, maybe I’ll get it out and use it again for old time’s sake. I hope all of you are having a great start to the weekend!
