A caravan of camels, along with their guides and tourists, walk past the Great Pyramids during a tour of the Giza Necropolis. Only the cores of the pyramids remain today, but at the time of its completion the pyramids were covered in a beautifully bright, polished layer of white limestone. This protective layer loosened after a large earthquake in the 13th century, during which time Arabs removed the blocks to build mosques in nearby Cairo. (UNESCO World Heritage Site)
