Beyond the death of a pier

Beyond the death of a pier

These are the exposed piles of the recently restored Princes Pier in Melbourne. They remind me of tombstones neatly lined up in rows in a cemetery.

Melbourne city skyline at night

Melbourne city skyline at night

Shot from the Southbank Pedestrian Bridge on Thursday night. Shot settings: 17mm, f/11.0, 15secs, ISO 200.

This is a composite of two indential exposures, except I used flash in only one shot. I partially blended in the bridge arch from the flash shot to brighten it up. Also, I blended two versions of the non-flash shot converted from RAW with slightly different white balance settings, to bring out the blue of the sky whilst retaining the warm hues of the rest of the shot.

The Pinnacles, Cape Woolamai

The Pinnacles, Cape Woolamai

For a long time, I wanted to photograph this spectacular location on Phillip Island. On Wednesday evening, I finally had an opportunity to drive down there in time for a beautiful sunset at low tide. I'll definitely be heading back for more!

Cement Creek, Yarra Ranges National Park

Cement Creek, Yarra Ranges National Park

On Saturday, I returned to this beautiful location near Warburton in Victoria. The mountain was damp after a recent shower, and the clouds had formed a dull overcast sky; perfect photography conditions! Even so, this is a very difficult place to photograph as the vegetation is dense and there are large dark areas in shadow. Plus, there is no path so getting here requires much adventurous clambering through the steep muddy bush, or in the creek itself. In other words, it was an excellent way to spend an afternoon.
