Haven't been here in a very long time - my computer just got over a terrible virus that knocked it out completely. In the meantime, I was doing my writing on typewriters and checking my email on my cellphone. But I had no way to transfer pics from my Nikon - so I figured I'd set the old lady back up and fix it.

I've done a couple of projects since the Great Computer Blackout - the latest one was two days ago, in fact. I read an interesting article in Harper's Magazine about Lehigh Acres and decided to take a look for myself.

Lehigh Acres has a long story behind it - not only is it one of the largest pre-planned neighborhoods ever developed (with 61,000 acres of lots and over 11,000 miles of roads), it's also one of the neighborhoods hit the hardest by the housing bubble. Large chunks of it still remain unsettled, particularly in the western reaches of the development.

I'll admit that I stopped at every stop sign down 15th St. - and every cross street has a stop sign - even though the streets I were crossing weren't even paved, and the chances that I would be hit by a car while running said stop sign were practically nonexistent.

The other big project I undertook was a documentation of the 39th St. toll plaza of the Crosstown Expressway. Not only is this toll plaza gone now, the entire entrance/exit has been closed. It probably didn't have enough patronage to make building a SunPass gantry there to be monetarily feasible - or, maybe the land is needed for some part of the I4/Crosstown connector, which is currently under construction.
