In From Waycross

In From Waycross

Another train of auto racks swings across the turnout at Folkston and heads south for Florida. Obviously a car hungry state...

CSX power in the shape of CW40-8's # 7920 and # 7854 make a wall of sound lifting the heavy load across the tracks.

17 January 2011.

Mixed Manifests

Mixed Manifests

A good number of the trains that pass through the Folkston Funnel are mixed manifests, handling anything from coal, grain, phosphates and sulphuric acid, cars, box wagons, intermodal containers and piggybacks... you name it, it's passing through.

This is pretty atypical of what is carried, a long and varied mix of goods behind CSX GE CW40-8 # 7310 and CW40-9 #9017, passing through at lunchtime on 17 January 2012.

GE Genesis Grab

GE Genesis Grab

Arriving into Kissimmee station with the southbound Silver Meteor on 19 January 2012 are Genesis P42-DC #166 and P40-DC #816.

For anyone that's not experienced the US Railroad, this pic gives you some idea of the immense size of these things, the station canopy height is a comparable size to ours despite there being no platform, and still the power towers over...

Florida Shortlines-The Florida Central Railroad

Florida Shortlines-The Florida Central Railroad

The Plymouth maintenance facility of Pinsly Railroads owned Florida Central Railroad.

The FCR operates freight branches from the CSX mainline in Orlando to various customers in the North East of Orange County and the South West of Lake County, utilising nearly 70 miles of trackage, and interchanging with CSX services at Taft Yard, a little to the south of Orlando Amtrak station.

Inside the shed is locomotive #60, an EMD GP9 originally built in 1959 for the Norfolk Western Railroad.
