The authentic cases on record where women took an active part in The First World War are many and various. One of the most notable was that of Emilienne Moreau, a seventeen-year-old heroine of Loos, who was honoured by the French Army order of the day for tending British wounded, and killing five Germans with a revolver and grenades. In a German attack on Loos she fought side by side with Highlanders and other British soldiers. General Sir Douglas Haig expressed his admiration and gratitude for her courage and assistance.

I myself think the title of this picture is very appropriate, being that Joan of Arc is most decidedly the honoured Patron of The First World War --- She was and is the defining symbol of all who served during WWI... with greatest respect... always.
