Australia's corvids can be terribly hard to tell apart. Often it comes down to location, behaviour and call in order to pick one species from another.
And so it is with this guy, a Little Raven from the rooftop of Australia at Victoria's Mt Hotham. He looks similar to the slightly larger Australian Raven, but has a rather different call and tends to come together in large flocks. I was lucky enough to be able to listen to this guy and his many mates for long enough to make a conclusive ID on call. However, the tiny fleck of white on the tail has me confused - they should be all black.
So, it is with confidence but slight perplexity that I ID this bird as #242 for my species set.
