Jam Session, Grand Opening of St. Landry Parish Visitor Information Center, May 23, 2011
The grand opening of the St. Landry Parish Visitor Information Center, held May 23, 2011, and attended by a large crowd, included an all-star jam session, along, of course, with speeches by Lieutenant Governor Jay Dardenne and other officials and with a ribbon cutting. Jam session participants were Goldman Thibodeaux, Louis Michot, Hadley J. Castille, Sarah Jayde Williams, Jeffery Broussard, Ann Savoy, Lisa Trahan, Wayne Singleton, and Gabe Meche. The photos were taken during the first part of the jam.

The center is itself a tourist attraction. The construction used a lot of salvaged materials, the design is very energy efficient, and, as much as possible, the building relies on renewable resources like a Photovoltaic Laminate Film system on the roof and a wind turbine to generate electricity. The center is located at exit 23 on I-49 about three miles north of Opelousas (the Ville Platte exit).
