Do you really get 21 cents for every doller in cans?
      I extremely doubt it.

@Sam Hale With a deposit of $0.10 per can, $0.21 per dollar actually sounds just right.

    11. °Florian (44 months ago | reply)

I think the can refund amount is a bit high. I can get cheap Natural Light for about $15/30 can case including the can deposit and tax. So that's 50 cents per beer. $1000 buys me 2000 beers. Calif pays 5 cents per can at recycling center to that only comes to $100 for my 2000 cans. Maybe other states pay more for recycling. Still, i'm ahead of the stocks.

Look at the stocks you picked try: Pico, Schw, MKL and WFC you'd be on your way with the dividends. I don't know ann idiot that picked those stocks and if they did they deserve to lose it. Do your homework. It's your money!

Still a neat little jab -- ouch!

That's a 6-pack a day every day of the cheap sh*t. 1189 lbs of cans @ .18 cents/lb in my area (Indiana). I don't know how many cans it takes to equal a lb but I'm sure my garage would be busting at the seams if I collected that many. The people that did have $1000 of stock a year ago are probably drinking the cheap sh*t now trying to forget that they had a $1000 of stock a year ago.

I agree with MathHippy - buying gold is a pretty safe investment. However I think, the best thing to do is to work out how to earn some money that doesn't involve a J.O.B. (just over broke) - I can tell you how to do this at my site, www.ricklomas.com

And Phil Gramm wrote McCain's entire Economic Policy. Mr. Deregulation himself who says you're all a Nation of Whiners and stated that it's just a "mental recession".

Some people will chose to believe whatever they have to in order to protect their own bias and willful ignorance. Hence, Republicanism.

michigan pays 10 cents for every can. at 50 cents per beer, you're getting 20% (.20 per dollar) back

actually, an aluminum can weighs 14 grams. There are 453 grams per pound. Meaning, it takes approximately 32 beers to make a pound. Aluminum is worth 70 cents per pound. Now I just bought an 18 pack at Circle K of Bud Light for 15 bucks. Meaning one beer costs approximately 80 cents.

$1,000 dollars will buy 1250 beers (or 39 pounds of aluminum)
      39 lbs X .70 cents per lb = $27.30

      NOT $214.00

even if you got a 5 cent recycle return in one of the states that did that, it would only come up to $62.50.

    23. chrisisageek (44 months ago | reply)

Argghhh! The digg geeks are one-upping each others math skills!

Wait, I actually love that! Aluminum, gold, weight per can, what about market value, vs. scrap value of aluminum?

And yes! Let's fight about democrats vs. republicans too. Because that's really at the heart of the matter.

**Crumple Zones? LOL! michaelb1, you made my day!

    24. efitz11 (44 months ago | reply)

at most places you can get a case (24 pack) of natty for 10 bucks. that is 1 natty per 41.67 cents. assuming 10 cents back per can like michigan does, that's getting 23.99% back. That means getting $1000 bucks of natty nets you $239.99 in a can recycling refund. That's more than the image!

A recent study found that the average American walks about 900 miles a year. Another study found that Americans drink, on average 22 gallons of alcohol a year. That means, on average, Americans get about 41 miles to the gallon!

    28. InsaneGeek (44 months ago | reply)

Living in the land of Michigan the part that is missing from the 10 cent return (that I know WAY to well) is that you have to deduct the $214 from the initial $1000 because you have to pay the deposit up front.

So if you have $1000 and want to be able to have $214 of returnables.

      $214 @ $0.10 /can return = 2,140 cans
$1000- $214 = $786 of actual beer money after subtracting the deposit
$786 - 6% sales tax = ~$741.5 of beer money left before taxes
      $741.5 / 2140 cans = ~34.6 cents per can or $8.30/case of 24.

Somebody's drinking some really, really crappy beer (if my numbers are right).

yeah, pick four of the worst stocks of a year, and yeah, you will get huge losses. this says absolutely nothing.

of course most stocks would have burned you. investing in beer cans is good, but you could get a much better return by investing in zippos
