at my desk :: Positivity Project Day 30

at my desk :: Positivity Project Day 30

This has been my first full week back to a regular schedule; last week was my first week off maternity leave, but was so filled with doctors appointments and whatnot that I didn't really have a "normal" schedule.

This week, though, has been a "normal" week: I swam twice, met with my advisor, and got small, but appreciable, amounts of actual worky work done. This morning has been nap-tastic, so I've gotten more done in the last hour than I did all day yesterday!

It's been really, really hard, and I still need to work on strategies for balancing things as a (for now) work-at-home mom.

Today's Positive? We survived this week. Here's to surviving, and hopefully thriving, as the weeks go on.

Maddy and mama, heading into campus :: Positivity Project Day 29

Maddy and mama, heading into campus :: Positivity Project Day 29

Yesterday was dreary and gross and got off to a very rough start, but we made it into campus so that I could have a meeting with my advisor, and so that Maddy could play with everyone in the department while I swam.

The day's positive(s)?
1. Meeting with my advisor for the first time since before Maddy was born.
2. Getting to see how much everyone enjoys my baby girl around the office
3. Swimming 22 laps (my furthest yet since having my girl)

Maddy's new play area! :: Positivity Project Day 28

Maddy's new play area! :: Positivity Project Day 28

Maddy has started taking an interest in things other than being held by mama (finally!), so we put together this toy hanger for her. One of the toys hanging from it is a mirror, and it is her favorite thing EVER. She lays under there and "talks" to herself. This is such a positive thing!!

The faces this kid makes! :: Positivity Project Day 27

The faces this kid makes! :: Positivity Project Day 27

(I decided to make this my PP project photo quite awhile after I posted it, because I don't feel like taking another photo today.)

Today's been a bit rough. Crappy night of sleep last night (poor girl was super gassy, which I always blame myself for, since for all I know it's something I ate that did it), and then my girl didn't nap one bit until just now (1pm), which meant I couldn't really get anything productive done (since when she's awake, she basically needs constant attention), which has me filled with all sorts of doubts about the feasibility of ever finishing my Ph.D now that she's in the picture. And this face, while adorable, was the precursor to another diaper blowout. Funtimes!

But. I've been thinking a lot about how far I've come since her birth, and everything I can manage to do now, and as really freaking cheesy as it sounds, I'm so grateful to my girl for showing me how strong and resilient I can be when I need to be.

So that's my positive for today.
