My favorite billboard in Kyoto depicts a maiko ( 舞子, 舞妓, a young geisha-in-training), advertising a confection called Kyō-onna (京おんな, Kyoto Woman) made by Yoshinaga-En. It is in Higashiyama-ku (東山区) at the intersection of Sanjō-Dōri & Jingū-Michi (三条神宮道), on the southeast corner facing west, where it can be seen in Google street view.

Nitta Doll Specialty Store in the city of Asahikawa, Hokkaido, Japan: the sign displays the face of an Empress doll. The two floors of the store were filled with dolls for Hinamatsuri (雛祭り, Doll Festival, or Girls' Festival, March 3rd), when girls display dolls of the Emperor and Empress on a stand, with the imperial couple at the top and their retinue arrayed below.

Ohinasama, very elegant examples of Emperor and Empress dolls. Hinamatsuri (雛祭り, Doll Festival) dolls may range in style and price from these to the very simplest imaginable versions made of clay, wood, even paper.
