One of a pair, this lighthouse on the East Pier of Dun Laoghaire help guide sea
traffic into the harbour. Again a simple composition focusing on the lantern
with the sky as the dramatic background. The sun peeping through
the cloud acts a backlight to the tower.

A view of the Baily lantern “appearing” above ground. The composition and elements are quite simple, but create a striking picture. A lighthouse has stood at this spot on Howth head since 1667 and consisted then of a coal-burning beacon on top of a square tower.
