By taking the guts of a television and hanging them out for all the world to see, Rath’s anthropomorphic sculpture Hangwave displays the vulnerable side of the cyborg. On one hand, it can be creepy to view Rath’s distended forms with a waving hand as the extremity of a skeletal machine. On the other, Rath injects a bit of humor with his archetypal human gesture to try and make contact: “Hello…over here!” and “Goodbye, come see me again.”
