The Fort Garry Hotel, Winnipeg

The Fort Garry Hotel, Winnipeg

Poor condition card by Meyers. Letter dated October 19, 1913 and addressed to J.S. Dodds, Carnegie Institute of Technology, Schenley Park, Pittsburgh, Pa., U.S.A.: "Winnipeg, Man. 10/19/13 We have the contract for wiring this $2,500,000 hotel. The wiring has been revised and I came out here to figure it. W. J. Saville." Interesting that they wouldn't have finished the wiring by the fall of 1913.

Portage Avenue, Winnipeg

Portage Avenue, Winnipeg

Letter written January 24, 1912, so this must be a 1911 view (by Maurice Lyall). It is to Miss Thelma Bredemies (?), Barnesville, Minnesota, U.S.A.: "346 Burrows Ave., Winnipeg, Man. Jan. 24th 1912 Dear Thelma, Just a P.C. to let you know I have not forgotten you. Hope this will find you well. I am O.K. my self. Did you get my last letter + card? Write soon. Having lovely weather here. Be good, Girlie. Ever Yours, J.H. (?)" Nice image of the Enderton Building (right foreground with large plate glass windows), Time Building (left foreground), Eaton's, Dismorr Block, etc. Street is still full of people, carts, bicycles, streetcars, etc.

Unused card by Maurice Lyall, showing St. John's Park. I think I have this in miniature as well.
