Roach Bream Hybrid - Abramis brama x Rutilus rutilus [more of this species]
Hybrid between a Roach and a Bream.
The only viable between the two species is a cross between a male Bream with a female Roach to create the F1 hybrid (F1 is the first generation cross, also misused by anglers as Carp x Crucian only). The F1 can be either male or female, and with back cross with roach, bream or with other F1s.
Anyway, I seen several with common 'phenotypes' in them.
An F1 has body shape is half way between bream and roach and colours are about half way as well.
There are hybrids which were definitely bream shaped but with roach coloured fins and the distinctive blue sheen. There look like silver bream, even down to the scale count that I use, which is the dorsal the lateral line count. Roach always has 7, Silver Bream <11 and Bream 13+. These guys had around 10-11 scales. Im guessing these are F1 backcrossed with bream.
Then there are also ones with a roach shape and bream colours, ie. really dark fins. These must be F1 backcrossed with roach.
A hybrid that looks like a silver bream. Its more bream shaped but with roach colours including the blue sheen.
